An overflow pipe should be installed on the rainwater harvesting tank. All overflow pipes need to be piped such that the overflow water does not cause erosion or foundation damage. Overflow pipes are commonly plumbed to daylight away from the system, municipal stormwater drains (above or below grade), a subgrade stormwater detention system, or an above grade retention pond.
